Six Years Old!
My lil’ ol’ meat pie ‘n coffee shop is celebrating its six-year anniversary today.
I chose to use my name for the café and to open it on July 21st, my birthday, as a way to gift myself the opportunity for success. I’ve never been afraid of hard work, being raised in this industry from a young age, and I’m all too familiar with the brutal reality that in food service, nothing is certain, nothing is given, and reputation means everything.
However much I knew, I never felt like I was close to achieving success. Success, literally, is the good or bad outcome of an undertaking. The accomplishment of an aim or purpose. I felt like success had always eluded me because I was a rebel. I have never wanted to conform, and I have always had some force pulling me away from paths I thought I was supposed to take.
I’ve struggled with outcasting myself and feeling more connected to wanting to do things my own way. After 26 years of pouring my heart into other people’s kitchens, I faced my fears and dared to dream up my own business. Despite those fears, I’ve thrived. The work doesn’t get easier. Every day is still filled with some of the hardest work I’ve ever known, but laughter fills my kitchen.
I’ve invested in my community and they have supported me one hundred percent. The incredible team who sling baps, mix meat pie fillings, bake cakes, create caffeinated art, and wade through mountains of dishes with me are my closest friends and to be completely honest, the coolest group of rebels and I’d do anything for them. This outcome, this success, it’s mine.
“Thank you” doesn’t begin to express my sincere gratitude to all of you who have supported me through my business. I genuinely love feeding you, and look forward to many more years of celebrating success with you all.
